Description SAHT 1B5-4.jpg |
English:
South Australian Housing Trust sales scheme for Trust-built houses. Termed "austerity housing", these houses were completed to lock-up stage but had only basic fittings of bath, toilet, hand basin, laundry trough, electric stove and gas water heater. The purchaser was expected to supply and fit floor coverings, beds, curtains, refrigerator or icebox, cupboards etc., also to paint, landscape, plant, add outbuildings etc. as finances allowed, and most did this work themselves in the postwar shortage of skilled labor.
