Summary
Description Salem Baptist Chapel, Shearer Road, Buckland (November 2017) (1).JPG | Salem Strict and Particular Baptist Church, Shearer Road, Buckland, City of Portsmouth, England. Although the building is modern (1950s), the Strict Baptist congregation has a long history. The church was founded in 1699, a permanent chapel was built in 1704 and a larger replacement was built on Meeting House Alley [Kent Street] in 1846. A secession in 1814 resulted in Salem Chapel being built on Russell Street [Salem Street]. This was bombed in World War II, and in 1953 it was stated that the council had provided a new site in the suburbs for a replacement church. |
