Summary

Description
English: Savoyard Cuirassier's armour, c. 1600.

This is one of the numerous pieces of armour captured by the Genevese in the Savoyard attack on the city in the night of 11/12 December 1602 (O.S.). The helmet (burgonet) represents the typical Savoyard fashion of the period, with a grinning mouth modelled on the face plate; in some specimens the face plate was made to resemble a grinning skull (hence the name Totenkopfhelm ("death's head helmet") given to this type of burgonet in German).

This particular piece is presumably from the collection in the Musée d'Art et de Histoire de Genève , although the uploader has not specified the inventory nr. and the museum website does not appear to list it. https://collections.geneve.ch/mah/recherche?search_api_fulltext=armet
