Summary

Description Sherborne Abbey (St. Mary), 27 July 2015. Founded as cathedral in 705 but seat was moved in 1075. It had already become a Benedictine Monastery in 998. Some Saxon work remains but most of current structure built 11th Century Norman and rebuilt/remodelled in 15th Century Perpendicular. The Abbey Church became the parish church after the Reformation and the older parish church of All Hallows attached to the West End was demolished. The current church was restored mid 19th Century Victorian. Pictured is the south elevation.
