Smallburgh_RD_1894.png

Description
English: Smallburgh Rural District, shown within the county of Norfolk, 1894.

The boundaries established in 1894 generally persisted until 1933 (Walsoken & Marshland), and 1935 elsewhere, except:

  • Welney RD (initially part of the Isle of Ely) was merged with Downham RD, and Redmere RD transferred to the Isle, in 1895
  • Central Wingland RD was transferred to the Parts of Holland (Lincolnshire) in 1897, with boundary changes. The area colouring represents the boundaries after these early adjustments to the county boundary.
  • Sheringham UD was created out of Erpingham RD in 1901 and extended in 1914
  • Guiltcross RD was abolished in 1902 and the area divided between Thetford, Wayland and Depwade RDs along the dotted lines shown
  • Hunstanton UD was extended in 1902, 1925 and 1928, as shown by dotted lines
  • Norwich CB expanded to the dotted line in 1907
  • Part of southern Marshland RD (dotted) was transferred to Downham RD in 1930
Some sandbanks in the Wash, although technically parished, are not shown.
