Summary
Description Soffiantini's Castle, Bonnie Doon, East London (9261415486).jpg |
One of East London’s more colourful residents was Jean-Baptiste Soffiantini who built this ‘castle’ with a turret next to the Nahoon River in a suburb known as Bonnie Doon. Inscribed in the castle are the words “Conceived, designed and built on the ruins of a lost love”. Soffiantini was said to have made his fortune from cosmetics, and stories about his flamboyant lifestyle abound. Vue de l'Eastern Cape en Afrique du Sud. |
