Summary

Description
English: St George's parish church, Great George Street, Leeds, West Yorkshire, seen from the southwest. St George's church was built with a spire and four pinnacles around its base. In 1962 a storm damaged the spire and some of the pinnacles fell through the church roof. The spire was demolished as the parish did not have the funds to repair both it and roof.

A new spire was built in 2006, funded by the developers of a block of apartments next to the church. (Apparently it was a condition of planning permission.)

This picture is an attempt to recreate an old picture on the Leodis website which includes the original spire. However, the Centaur building was built later, and foiled this plan. This picture was taken with the photographer's back against the Centaur building. The original spire was taller than its replacement.
