Frederick John Napier Thesiger, Baron Chelmsford (born August 12, 1868, London, England, died April 1, 1933, London), was sworn in as Governor of Queensland on 20 November 1905. He had several titles, including Viscount Chelmsford and Lord Chelmsford. He was the son of a distinguished soldier and grandson of a statesman. Lord Chelmsford studied Law and was called to the Bar in 1893. The following year he married Frances Guest, the daughter of Lord Wimbourne, and they brought their young family with them to Queensland. Both Lord and Lady Chelmsford were accomplished musicians, he playing violin-cello and she piano. They formed chamber music groups at Government House in Brisbane and later in Sydney. He left Queensland to become Governor of New South Wales in 1909 and after World War I spent a period as Viceroy of India, from 1916-1921.
