English: The left figure shows the 3-D Ekman spiral, with the depth in m (surface =0 m) on the z-axis, the zonal velocity in m/s on the x-axis and the meridional velocitin in m/s on the y-axis. The Ekman spiral can be clearly seen and each new layer is shifted 45 degrees from the last. The velocity is outward from the center of the spiral. The right figure shows the 2-D Ekman spiral, with the meridional velocity in m/s on the y-axis and the zonal velocity on the y-axis. The coloured dots represent the depth in m (surface = 0 m). Here the shift in velocities clearly indicates the spiraling nature.
