English: Looking northward to the Swan Island Site from Illinois Route 33 . The site lies in the southeastern corner of Montgomery Township , Crawford County , Illinois , United States , although the photo is taken from northeastern Russell Township in Lawrence County . Swan Island was the location of a village of the Riverton culture of Native Americans during the Archaic period ; today, it is an archaeological site and listed on the National Register of Historic Places .
