Summary

Description
English: Within the Pio Clementino Museum section of the Vatican Museums is the Round Hall (Sala Rotonda). This large hall with a hemispherical dome vault inspired by the Pantheon was completed in 1779. All around the walls are colossal ancient statues, each in its own shallow alcove. On the floor are 3rd Century AD mosaics. In the centre of the room is a basin of imperial red porphyry; which the ancient Romans had valued above all other stones.
