Summary
Description Thomas Chalmers statue, George Street Edinburgh.jpg |
English:
One of the leaders of the Disruption of 1843 which led to the creation of the Free Church of Scotland. The issue which led to the breakaway was whether wealthy patrons had the right to install a minister in a parish. Chalmers was one of 450 ministers who refused to compromise the Kirk's independence and its right to conduct its own affairs.
