Summary

Description
English: In 1987 a transparent, projected capacitance keypad was designed as a touchscreen for operation through thick glass or double glazing. A clear polyester film, coated with transparent Indium Tin Oxide, was etched to form a keypad with 16 independent touch sensing zones, as shown in the inset image. There were 5 zones down the left edge and another 5 zones down the right edge. The middle area was completely filled with three zones, side by side, in the top half and another three zones, side by side, in the bottom half. This configuration enabled the selection of 5 separate items down each of the left and right edges and 5 items across the top half and another five items across the bottom half. All sensing zones were connected directly to their nearest edge by thick tracks in order to keep track resistance as low as possible.
