Summary
Description USFWS Prescribed Fire at Conboy Lake NWR (22489393517).jpg | Here, a firefighter lights the final edge of the Troh prescribed fire unit on Conboy Lake National Wildlife Refuge. Mt. Adams stands in the background. The prescribed burn was successfully completed with 72 acres treated in late October. Fire historically played an important role in maintaining grassland plant communities on the Refuge. Prescribed fire can been utilized as an effective management tool to remove dense, rank vegetation, woody encroachment, and accumulated debris, particularly in areas that are unsuitable for machinery. Decadent and encroaching vegetation were reduced for the enhancement of habitat for both the Oregon Spotted Frog and the Greater Sandhill Crane. Photo Credit: Lisa Wilson, USFWS. |
