010724-N-6077T-007 The Western Pacific Ocean (Jul. 24, 2001) -- The Los Angeles Class Attack submarine USS Chicago (SSN 721) completes a training maneuver off the coast of Malaysia. Malaysian and U.S. Navy ships and submarines participated in a war at sea exercise as part of the seventh annual Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) 2001 exercise. CARAT, a series of bilateral exercises, takes place throughout the Western Pacific each summer with the goal of increasing regional cooperation and promoting interoperability with each country.
