Summary
Description Upper Castle in Vilnius (2013).jpg |
English:
Not much remains of the former Upper Castle in Vilnius, Lithuania, except for Gediminas' Tower.
The first fortifications of this castle were built out of wood on the orders of Gediminas, Duke of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. Later the first brick castle was completed in 1409 by Grand Duke Vytautas. The 3-story Gerdimias' Tower, seen on the right, was actually rebuilt 1930, by polish architect Jan Borowski. Some remnants of the old castle have been restored, guided by archeological research.
