Eastern Balochi is a member of the macrolanguage Baluchi and is spoken primarily in Pakistan, although the region of Balochistan extends into Iran and Afghanistan. Eastern Balochi, like other Balochi varieties, is written in the Arabic script. According to Ethnologue its status is developing, which means that it is used vigorously and in literature though not yet widespread. The Balochi people live in small towns in the Balochistan region, which is characterized by arid desert and mountains, and possesses abundant natural resources. They have rich cultural traditions including jewelry, dance, folk songs, and lullabies.

Eastern Balochi is spoken by around 180,000 people in Pakistan, and all Balochi languages are spoken by over five million people. It is a Western Iranian language within the Indo-Iranian branch of the Indo-European language family.
