English:
Warwick's Saturday market rethought
The weekly market closed on 23rd March 2020 to comply with measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19. My recollection of the market is of two long crowded aisles between stalls on the paved area: see Chris Allen's photo from 2011 SP2864 : Open air market, Warwick; his viewpoint was behind the camera here, looking left. The market re-opened on 23rd May in a temporary enclosure that had just two access points, each with an attendant and hand sanitiser. It had spread across the road, left, and allowed plenty of room for 2-metre distanced queueing. The council website set out some of the other measures being taken: LinkExternal link It is a rather better arrangement than before though what has been lost is atmosphere: the sense of bustle, the chatter, the close contact and being one of the crowd. On the right can be seen the space allowed for patrons of the Tilted Wig and Lloyd's No.1 to sit outside. |
