The legend provided is as follows:
"Plate 2 Detail of basis apparatus (Fig. 1– gasometer cylinder in. Shows outer cylinder H, double-walled with ½-inch space holding water to form as-seat for rasing cylinder J. Flared rim W prevents overflow of water. Fig. 2– dish for cooling water or absorbent liquid., seen in vertical section and also in plan. Fig. 3– spiral gas-channel, seen in vertical section and also from below. Fig. 4- alembic and fittings, seen in vertical section. Fig. 5- needle valve (detail).) (it is assujed that "1975" is a mis-print of "1795".
