Summary
Description Zhou archaic form of Tian.svg | Archaic form of the character Tiān 天 ("Heaven", "Sky", "God"), of the Zhou dynasty and culture. It represents a human-like being whose head-mind is informed by the astral square of the north celestial pole (Big Dipper, swastika ), and derives from the Shang archaic character for Dì 帝, "Deity" . Further information in John C. Didier's In and Outside the Square: The Sky and the Power of Belief in Ancient China and the World - Volume III: Terrestrial and Celestial Transformations in Zhou and Early-Imperial China, c. 4500 BC – AD 200 ( Sino-Platonic Papers , n. 192, Victor H. Mair, University of Pennsylvania, 2009). |
