Origin: 1920s: euphemistic alteration of fucking, with the substitition of eff for fuck ; see also eff.

eff verb

• used as a euphemism for fuck (verb) in various expressions.
• "if I'd told him to eff off that would have been me out of the team"
Origin: 1940s (in the phrase eff and blind ): the letter F represented as a word.
