fulguration noun [ ˌfʌlɡjʊˈreɪʃ(ə)n ]

• the destruction of small growths or areas of tissue using diathermy.
• a flash like that of lightning.
Origin: mid 17th century (usually plural in the sense ‘flashes of lightning’): from Latin fulguratio(n- ) ‘sheet lightning’, from fulgur ‘lightning’. fulguration (sense 1) dates from the early 20th century.
