lamentable adjective [ ˈlaməntəb(ə)l ]

• (of circumstances or conditions) very bad; deplorable.

• full of or expressing sorrow or grief.

Origin: late Middle English (in the sense ‘mournful’, also ‘pitiable, regrettable’): from Old French, or from Latin lamentabilis, from the verb lamentari (see lament).
